The definitive journey through Savatage’s history. A unique collector’s volume filled with rare photographs, previously unpublished material, and untold stories from the legendary band that emerged from Florida’s Gulf Coast metal scene.
The official Savatage Greek Fan Club, Greek Legion, proudly presents the A Thousand Tales Untold book trilogy.

The first volume follows brothers Jon Oliva and Criss Oliva through their formative years. Across its pages, the stories of Metropolis USA, Tower, and Avatar are brought back to life. The book chronicles their earliest legendary live performances, outrageous backstage moments, and the fateful meeting with neighborhood friend Steve Wacholz and bassist Keith Collins.
The book also follows Savatage’s remarkable rise from the independent label Par Records to the legendary Atlantic Records, revealing how the band climbed from the underground Tampa metal scene to the stages of America’s biggest venues.
This edition transports readers back to the birth of the American metal scene, capturing the spirit and culture of the early ’80s while paying tribute to the passionate fanzine writers whose dedication helped spread the music they loved around the world.
Drawing primarily from firsthand accounts by the people involved, the book also features hundreds of rare archival items, including handwritten notes by band members, previously unpublished photographs, and clippings from dozens of fanzines published between 1980 and 1985. Richly illustrated throughout and printed on premium coated paper, this 130-page collector’s edition faithfully showcases its extensive visual archive.
Researched and written by Andreas Economou, co-founder of Greek Legion, established in 2002. Featuring a foreword by Yiannis Vogiantzis (Jon Voyager, Need). Published by Belle Époque Books.
